New: Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Accelerator Program
Rebates Available for Qualifying ADUs

ADU Accelerator Program

The City of San Ramon has launched an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Rebate Program for residents of San Ramon.

An Accessory Dwelling Unit, or ADU, is an attached or detached dwelling unit located on a lot which contains a single-family or multi-family home.

The Rebate Program is funded with a $154,319 grant from the Senate District 7 ADU Accelerator Program, piloted by Senator Glazer, to advance or “accelerate” the production of ADUs through a series of programs. The production of ADUs is one strategy to address the need for additional housing in existing communities.

Homeowners may receive one rebate of up to $7,500 if they obtain an issued building permit after April 14, 2025, to build a non-income-restricted (market-rate) ADU and receive the final building permit inspection approval within 18 months or by August 31, 2026, whichever comes first. The rebate amount depends upon the size of the ADU, with smaller ADUs considered to be more affordable to potential tenants by design:

  • $7,500 for units smaller than 500 sq. ft.
  • $5,000 for units from 501 to 750 sq. ft.
  • $2,500 for units from 751 to 1,000 sq. ft.
  • No rebate for units greater than 1,000 sq. ft.

Rebates are given on a first-come, first-served basis until all the funds are expended or the program period ends on August 31, 2026.

The required application form and additional information is available at the link below.

Families with young children can arrive early for a First Act Workshop, a free, interactive session at 12 p.m. Little ones can explore the story, move to the music, and bring a favorite stuffed-animal friend to dance along to “Musetta’s Waltz.”
