Each year, the San Ramon City Council participates in a goal-setting workshop, during which the Council reviews and revises its goals for the upcoming fiscal year (July 1–June 30).
Below are the Goals for the 2024–25 Fiscal Year.
Goal #1: Maintain a Safe and Secure Environment
- Reinforce strong public safety partnerships, ensure police functions are fully resourced, while promoting safe, thriving retail spaces, develop a robust plan to curb retail theft
- Improve vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian safety through the implementation of capital projects and public education
- Continue the implementation of technology to enhance public safety, like the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)
- Collaborate with the County to coordinate mental health services
Goal #2: Maintain a Secure Financial Base
- Efficiently annex and integrate the last part of Dougherty Valley and streamline the oversight process
- Encourage Discover San Ramon to promote hotel stays for conferences and other opportunities, like sports tourism
- Attract new businesses, encourage business growth that aligns with the community’s needs and the Economic Development Strategic Plan
- Explore potential revenue enhancements to increase financial stability
Priority #3: Provide Cost Effective and Responsive Services to Sustain Quality of Life
- Ensure sufficient staffing in order to maintain service levels to the community
- Continue to work on a succession plan that captures institutional knowledge from long-term City employees who will retire during the fiscal year
- Support and fund Iron Horse Trail overcrossings at Bollinger Canyon Road and Crow Canyon Road
Goal #4: Build and Maintain Quality Facilities and Infrastructure
- Promote deeper partnerships with transit agencies to enhance operations and cooperate with the “Innovate 680” initiative
- Implement capital projects and programs that promote environmental sustainability, complete roadway projects, and maintains or improves current 77 pavement condition index (or PCI)
- Implement the Parks, Trails, Open Space, and Recreation Master Plan
- Expand the “Go San Ramon” program and evaluate facility accessibility for an evolving community
- Improve public transit, enhance traffic signals, and enhance mobility options
Goal #5: Enhance Engagement and Communication with Residents and Business Community
- Encourage regular updates on City accomplishments and project status reports using most effective communication channels
- Explore technology improvements that will broaden accessibility to City Council meetings and the technology inside the Council chambers
- Explore City-sponsored activities and gathering spaces to increase community engagement and promote community building
- Continue to collaborate with organizations that promote tourism and business development
Goal #6: Balance Land Use Planning for Housing, Retail, Jobs and Open Space
- Prioritize housing growth in the City core while preserving existing retail, commercial and open space
- Preserve permanent Open Space along the City boundaries through partnerships with other agencies, including East Bay Regional Parks and Save Mount Diablo
- Promote walkability both within and to local shopping centers and implement the approved Walking District
- Continue to develop the Walking District in San Ramon that connects City Hall, Central Park, the Main Library, and the new City Center; Support events celebrating open spaces
- Complete the General Plan Update
