Sandbag Availability

sandbag stationAs any incoming storms take shape in the fall of each year, the City of San Ramon is prepared to respond. Sandbag supplies are made available for public use. San Ramon residents or businesses that require sand or sandbags must bring a shovel and helping hands to one of four locations for supplies (bags and sand provided):
  1. Athan Downs, Montevideo Drive near San Ramon Valley Blvd
  2. Central Park, Alcosta Blvd adjacent to the San Ramon Community Center
  3. San Ramon Sports Park, Sherwood Way

What you can do...

To report clogged storm drains, downed trees, or flooding challenges, please call (925) 973-2800 during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.) or the San Ramon Valley 911 Communication Center at (925) 973-2779 after hours, and they will contact the appropriate Public Works staff for a response.

Winter weather in and around the San Ramon Valley brings rain, sleet and ice. Prepare your vehicle and home for wet and windy conditions to reduce risks and provide you peace of mind.

Storm Preparations

The Public Works team takes proactive measures to minimize storm-related issues during storm season. They complete and monitor several tasks, including:

  1. Maintaining and restocking public sandbag station supplies at 3  sites (see Sandbag Availability), as needed, and filling sandbags for staff use during storm response.
  2. Overseeing the catch basin cleaning contract to ensure all catch basins are cleaned and cleared of debris.
  3. Restocking salt pellets at Service Center for icy road conditions to melt black ice.
  4. Person taking a sample of water.Checking hot spot areas citywide to minimize obstructions that block creek banks and creek underpasses/culverts.
  5. Monitoring creeks and water quality control pond water levels, as well as identifying any new obstructions, erosion, and clogs.
  6. Checking and removing debris from trash racks.
  7. Continuing to clean tops of catch basin grates to prevent surface road flooding caused by leaves or trash covering storm drain grates.
  8. Checking inlet entries at concrete v-ditches.
  9. Patching newly developed potholes from recent storms.
  10. Emergency callout van.Preparing emergency callout van; restock with supplies.
  11. Conducting emergency response training with staff.
  12. Preparing drainage equipment and supplies, i.e., chainsaws, trash pumps, generators etc.
  13. Fueling trucks.
  14. Adding additional staff to be on emergency standby over the weekend in the event extra personnel are needed.
