FALL JURIED ART SHOW: CONVERGENCE OF CREATIVITY

Prospectus

Application deadline: Extended to September 18, 2024

Discover the Convergence of Creativity, an extraordinary Juried Art Exhibition that delves into the theme of “Connections.” This inspiring showcase invites artists from diverse backgrounds to explore and celebrate the myriad ways in which we are interconnected. From the tangible to the abstract, from personal relationships to global networks and in nature, “Connections” seeks to illuminate the invisible threads that weave our world together.

Artists 16 years and older are invited to enter recent 2D & 3D original work to be considered for the Juried Art Exhibit at the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Gallery in November. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, September 18.

2024 Juror: Marija Nelson Bleier
Marija Nelson Bleier has worked in the art world for more than twenty years. She earned a BA in Art History from the University of California at Santa Cruz and has since built a career in the visual arts, working with esteemed institutions such as the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, a Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and the San Francisco Airport Museums, in addition to private art galleries. She also dedicated nearly a decade to the Town of Danville, as the Supervisor for Cultural Arts, she curated art exhibits, managed public art projects and all arts-related programming. In 2023, Marija joined the City of Walnut Creek in the role of Public Art Manager, where she manages the City’s ever-growing collection of 50+ works of public art. Her commitment to the arts extends beyond her professional endeavors: She has volunteered as a Committee Member for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District’s Student Recognition Project and has served as a commissioner representing District II on the Art and Culture Commission of Contra Costa County (AC5). Additionally, she contributed to the Arts Advisory Committee for BART and is currently the President Emeritus on the board of Contra Costa County Midrasha. Marija is passionate about making art accessible for everyone, collaborating with artists and enhancing the cultural landscape of her community. She feels fortunate to have a career that focuses on integrating the arts into everyday life.

 

DOUGHERTY STATION COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER STAIRWELL MURALS

Application deadline: October 10, 2024

The City of San Ramon is seeking a qualified artist(s) to submit their qualifications to provide a mural installation in the North and South Stairwells at the Dougherty Station Community Arts Center (17011 Bollinger Canyon Road, San Ramon). Artists of all media are encouraged to apply for consideration. Artists who would like to submit a qualification for such services shall submit a qualification following the instructions and format outlined in the Request for Qualifications (RFQ). 

This project has two sites located in each stairwell.  Each site will be awarded separately.  The two sites may have the same or different artists.

The first site is in the South Stairwell. The location includes only the back wall and the shelf. The wall is 21 feet high from the landing to the ceiling and 8 feet, 4 inches wide. The project size is approximately 154 square feet.

The second site is in the North Stairwell. The location includes the back wall of the stairwell. The wall is 17 feet, 10 inches from the landing to the ceiling and 8 feet, 4 inches wide. The project size is approximately 149 square feet.

 

ART & WIND FESTIVAL COMMISSIONED ARTIST

The City of San Ramon is pleased to invite qualified artists to participate in the City’s Art & Wind Festival by creating a featured artwork for the May 25-26, 2025, event. The Art & Wind Festival is San Ramon’s premier special event featuring professional kite flyers, professional entertainment, community performances, arts and crafts vendors, kids’ zones, food courts, and so much more. The event draws over 40,000 attendees over the two days from all over the Bay Area.

The artwork shall represent the City of San Ramon and the Art & Wind Festival. Previous pieces have depicted the art and wind themes in some way using items such as kites, balloons, butterflies, windsocks, paint palettes, brushes, pinwheels, etc., to show elements of the annual event.  Other non-literal art interpretations of the event are acceptable if they can capture the spirit of the event.

The selected artist will receive a stipend of $750 to assist with the cost of materials and to compensate the artist for their time. In addition, the artist will receive free gallery space to exhibit for May at one of the five city art galleries.

Interested artists, ages 16 years and older, who live in the Tri-Valley (San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore) are invited to submit an application. The application deadline is October 23, 2024.
