TANZA | Many Hands Creative
I'm a Filipino American artist, and I grew up in a military family, moving to different places until we finally settled in San Diego. I've always been someone who feels things deeply and thinks a lot about myself and the world around me. I'm curious about how our emotions come from our bodies and how things like colors and pictures can help us express feelings in ways that words alone can’t say.
When I start a painting, I think about how I’m feeling — what emotions or experiences are making me react strongly. I dive into those feelings and see what images, colors, or shapes come to mind. I pay attention to where I feel tension in my body, and I try to find a way to show that feeling visually on the canvas. I create a picture of a feeling that I couldn’t explain in words. My paintings aren’t just something you look at — they make you feel something deep inside
With everything going on in the world — climate problems, political and social differences, and the chaos around us — people sometimes become numb and tune out, distracting themselves with easy digital content. Art is meant to snap you out of that numbness and make you feel something real. It’s proof that even though we express ourselves in different ways, we can still relate and connect on an emotional level. Love is love, fear is fear, and red is our blood.
