(Note: The VIPS program is currently full. We will process new applications as Volunteers retire or more work becomes available. Thank you.)
The San Ramon Police Department has a well-established volunteer program. The Volunteer Services unit has three main volunteer programs: VIPS, Chaplains, and Explorers.
VOLUNTEERS
The Volunteers in Police Services (or VIPS) consists of citizens who contribute their time and talents to support the San Ramon Police Department and the well-being of our community. Volunteers support and supplement police department services, in non-hazardous duties, to free up police officers and staff to perform other duties and tasks critical for public safety. Some of the tasks undertaken by VIPS members include the following:
- Helping with special events, such as the Art & Wind Festival, National Night Out, charity runs, and other community gatherings.
- Doing vacation house checks.
- Helping in the front office at the police department with administrative work, answering phones, scanning, entering traffic citations, and fingerprinting.
Helping with the Neighborhood Watch program, Police Department tours and the Community Academy
- Serving as translators in various languages.
Volunteers are recruited from citizens who have completed the Community Academy, which gives them a basic understanding of police work. The volunteers are a valuable daily resource for the police department. For more information, contact Sergeant Mark Holland at [email protected].
